Recruiting Report

Bio

Middletown, Conn., Xavier linebacker

Stats

2010: 111 tackles, 41 solo, five sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.

Evaluation

Ranking: No. 16 inside linebacker on Rivals; No. 21 outside linebacker on Scout

How he fits in: Stewart was a guy Florida was interested in over the summer, but former offensive coordinator Steve Addazio was the one recruiting him. He was a Boston College commit until late January, so Florida was always a school he was in contact with. Linebacker was a position of need for the Gators in this class and Stewart fills part of that need. He'll need to bulk up some before he can contribute.

Chances of playing early: Though Florida needed linebackers, Stewart's size could hurt his chances of playing early. His film shows he's got decent speed and hits with the best of them. He'll need some time to grow, but could be a workhorse-type player.

Notes: Named the top prospect in Connecticut by Rivals.com. ... Led Xavier to a 13-0 record and a state championship. ... Chose Florida over Boston College, UConn, Iowa, Syracuse and Temple. ... Coached by Sean Marinan.
